Born in Mysore in 1963, Bhageerathi Bai Kadam is one of the most respected theater artists and activists of the Kannada film industry. She completed her diploma from Ninasam in Karnataka. At Ninasam, she was a student of Chidambara Rao Jambe, one of the finest theater actors in South India, who also was the director of Rangayna.
Then in 1990, she graduated from the National School of Drama where she studied for three years and had a very successful time. She acted in various plays. Being in the National School of Drama, she got a chance to work with Tara Arts, London.

, a well-renowned theater personality. With Baharul, she found the Seagull Theater Academy where she was the Principal until 2016. Apart from these works, Bhageerathi also acted in various plays across the globe, mainly in the USA, Germany, and Japan.
She is one of the most respected theater artists around, she received the Swarna Jayanti Award for her tireless work for the Indian Theater scene in 2007. She also received the best supporting-actress award from the Government of Karnataka for the movie Agasi Parlour and, she won the best actress award for Rodor Sithi.
She has also directed many plays like A Mid Summer Nights Dream, Antigone, The Lesson, Julias Caesar, just to name a few. Her latest work on screen is

, released in 2019, where she played the lead role of the mother. Apart from her acting career, she has successfully translated many plays from Kannada to the Assamese language and vice-versa. In 2017; Bhageerathi was appointed as the director of Rangayna, one of the most popular Theater repertory. The state government appointed her after the three-year tenure of H.Janardhan.
Bhageerathi is also a well-known activist, as all her life she has dedicated the craft of her acting to protest against the social stigmas and issues which still haunt the Indian society. In an interview she gave after being newly appointed as the director, she said that theater has the power to uproot all the problems of caste and creed. Bhageerathi has been a fierce activist and has always worked her entire life to not just entertain, but also educate through her plays.
