Lakshmi Vijay is an Indian playback singer who primarily works in Kannada cinemas (sandalwood industry) since 2007. Lakshmi Vijay was born in Bangalore, Karnataka, to a family of musicians: her mother, Smt. Sujatha Prasad is a well-known Recording Artist in Kannada cinemas (Sandalwood industry). Lakshmi learns Carnatic Classical Vocals and Sugama Sangeetha from her mother. Her mother trained her in every step of music. Her interest in music was also formed by regular meetings with Dr. Nagavalli Nagaraj.
Other than Carnatic, Laxmi was also trained for Hindustani as well as Western. She learned Western vocal styles (Rock and Pop) from Trinity College, London. Lakshmi Vijay got her first offer for playback singing in 2007 for the movie ‘Snehana Preethina’, under music composer V. Harikrishna. Later, she worked as a playback singer in many movies under different music composers. Some popular Movies where she worked as a playback singer are Vishnuvardhana(2011), Adachanegaagi Kshamisi(2019), and Jaanu(2012).
Lakshmi was also nominated for the ‘Mirchi Music Awards (MMA)’ for the upcoming female vocalist of the year, ‘the 1st Kannada International Music Awards (KiMA)’ for Best Playback Singer (Female), and ‘The Zee Music Award’ for Popular Female Singer. She also worked on Remo’s Muzic Spark musical band, where she was an active member, and this band performed at various events throughout India. They also released two private albums ‘Gelathi Yennale’ in 2013 and ‘Bengaluru Hudgiru’ in 2014.
