K. Shivaram Karanth is an Indian play writer who worked for the Kannada film industry. He was born on 10th October 1902 in Kota, Udupi, India. Karanth was also recognized as Rabindranath Tagore of Modern India, as he was one of the finest novelists and activists. He completed his primary education from Kundapura and Mangalore and was very influenced by Gandhi's principle. He also took part in the Indian independence movement and non-cooperation movement, making him stop his college education.
Shivram started writing in 1924 and published his first book named Rashtrageetha Sudhakara. As one of the finest play writers, he was also awarded many literary awards and national honors. Sahitya Academy Fellowship in 1985, Sangeet Natak Academy Fellowship in 1973, Sangeet Natak Award, Dadabhai Nauroji Award in 1990, Pampa Award, Tulsi Samman, and many other awards filled his home. He also received Padma Bhushan and later returned it in honor to protest against the Emergency imposed in India.
He also wrote plays, science books, autobiographies, travelogues, biography, art, architecture, and other things. His novels include Iddaru Chinthe, Nambidavara Naka Naraka, Swapnada Hole, Ade Uru Ade Mara, Bathada Thore, etc.
