Ashish Chandra Sen

Ashish Chandra Sen is a media educator, writer/author, theatre person, community media practitioner, educator and independent journalist and is co-authoring a corporate biography. His work experience of more than 30 years covers the areas of media training/education, production and research with a particular emphasis on communications for development and leadership at country, and international levels. He is very fanatic about community media and has involved with the community radio movement in India. He is also closely involved with its growth in the Asia-Pacific region. His efforts to promote community radio in India had helped in establishment of some radio stations such as Namma Dhwani in Karnataka and Radio Kalanjiam in Tamil Nadu. Ashish Chandra Sen is also interested in theatre.

Sen has been in theatre for a long time in cities like Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore. He has acted in and directed various productions and has used theatre as a training vehicle for the corporate, academic and social sectors. He teaches about theatre and radio in several colleges and also conducts workshops in these areas for both the corporate and the development sector. He has co-authored with Hema Hattangady a corporate biography, Lift Off. Ashish Chandra Sen is on the Board of AMARC Asia Pacific and is a member of AMARC International’s Governance Committee. He is also a Community Media Consultant and Evaluator of Commonwealth Education Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA).

He is AMARC’s Expert Consultant on UNESCO’s IPDC Programme to develop Community Radio in Bhutan and also a core member of the International Commission on Survivor-Centered Disaster Recovery. He is an Editor of Community Radio News, a newsletter managed by the UNESCO. Sen is a theatre and media consultant with Interweave Consulting Private Limited and Innnobridge Consulting Private Limited and has facilitated workshops for corporates including Wipro, Sapient, Tata Consultancy Services, Ranstad, Liquid Hub, Kelly Services, Hinduja Global Solutions, and Avery Denzien. His Clients/Partners are in the social and academic sectors include Parikrma Foundation, Mithra Jyothi, Samarthanam, APD, Convergence Media Institute Bangalore, Symbiosis Pune, Mount Carmel and Jyothi Nivas Colleges Bangalore. Sen started his career as a journalist in Kolkata with the Business Standard, where he became Assistant Editor. He has been engaged professionally at senior management levels with frontline development organizations in India.
