B C Gowrishankar was an Indian Kannada cinematographer. He was born on 25th February 1950 in Bengaluru. He was the son of B. Channabasappa and Shashimukhi. After the formal education, he pursued a Diploma in Cinematography from Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic Institute. He worked at Kanteerava Studios Bangalore for two years. B.C. Gowrishankar was famous for his unorthodox style of cinematography. He worked in both art and commercial films effectively. He started as a cameraman in the Kannada film Sringaramasa. He debuted as a cinematographer in the film Anuroopa in 1977. He did the cinematography for films like Spandana, Om, Mysore Mallige, Dhruva Thare and Arivu. In his career, he worked as a cinematographer for 90+ movies. He won six Karnataka State Film Awards for his cinematography. He also directed the movie Elu Suttina Kote in 1988. At the age of 54 years, he was in Ramakrishna Nursing Home Bengaluru due to liver failure. But on 16th November 2004 around 11 pm he died.
