Pankaj Dheer is an Indian television, film actor, and director who predominantly acts in Hindi serials and movies. He was born and brought up in the city of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He has acted in several TV shows and films but what brought him to the pedestal of fame is his colossal role of Karna in the portrayal of the Hindu epic, ‘Mahabharatha’ in the year 1988-1990. He became a household name in North India after this role.
He had a rather modest debut to his career acting in the movie ‘Sookha’ in the year 1983. But he went on to clinch the role of Karna in the ‘Mahabharata’ TV show that aired from 1988-1990. Since then he has been acting in a lot of films and serials. ‘Saugandh’ in 1991 gave him a small break and then came ‘Sanam Bewafa’ in 1991 where he acted as Zuber Khan.
Although quite popular through movies, serials are where Pankaj has made a big mark. After ‘Mahabharata’ he started receiving scores of offers and he appeared in the
Zee Horror Show in 1993, Kanoon, ‘
Chandrakanta’ later in 94-96 and then the ‘Harichandra’ series in 1998. In the new millennium, he reduced the number of TV shows and concentrated on the direction and acting in films.
He played a significant role in ‘
Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge’ in 2002 and then ‘
Om’ in 2003. He donned the director’s hat in the year 2014 after a string of successful ventures as a television actor. His first and only venture till date was ‘My Father Godfather’ in early-2014 with
Kratika Sengar and
Sharad Malhotra in lead roles.
