Amarinder Singh was born on March 11, 1942. He is well known as an Indian politician, military historian, author, former royal, and veteran who serves as the 15th and current Chief Minister of Punjab. On March 16, 2017, Captain Amarinder Singh was sworn in as the 26th Chief Minister of Punjab. Along with nine ministers, he took the oath. He was elected from Patiala. Former Army officer Amarinder Singh is also the head of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. He served as Punjab's Chief Minister from 2002 until 2007. Rajiv Gandhi, Amarinder Singh's school friend, introduced him to the Congress. In 1980, he was elected for the first time to the Lok Sabha. To oppose the Army's actions during Operation Blue Star, he resigned from Parliament and the Congress in 1984.
Later, he was elected to the Punjab legislature from the Talwandi Sabo assembly district as a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal. Agriculture, Forestry, Development, and Panchayats were his portfolios in the state administration. In 1992, Amarinder Singh split from the Shiromani Akali Dal and founded the Shiromani Akali Dal breakaway party (Panthic). In September 2008, a special committee of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha dismissed Amarinder for land-related transaction violations. His deportation was declared illegal by India's Supreme Court in 2010. Since 2013, he has served as the head of the Punjab Congress Campaign Committee and as a Permanent Invitee to the Congress Working Committee.
