Kirit Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma Bahadur is a politician from India. He is the 186th King and the present leader of the Tripura Royal Family. He was born in Delhi on July 4, 1978, and presently lives in Agartala, Tripura. He was also the editor of TNT-The Northeast Today. He is the current chairman of TIPRA or The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance. He is known among his people as 'Bubagra' and is an outspoken advocate for the rights of the indigenous Tripuri people of Tripura. He spent his adolescence at Tripura Castle in Shillong, Meghalaya. In addition, his first foray into higher education was in Shillong. Pradyot Manikya was an active Congress politician when he was younger. His father, Kirit Bikram Debbarma, was a three-term Member of Parliament, and his mother, Bibhu Kumari, was a two-term Congress MLA who served as Tripura's Revenue Minister.
Even though Pradyot did not run for office until the TTAADC election in 2021, he was still engaged in protests, agitations, and movements for the Tiprasa people of Tripura. Bubagra Pradyot Manikya resigned as President of the Tripura Pradesh Congress in 2019 after a disagreement with the Tripura Pradesh Congress over a dispute over NRC case filing and took a sabbatical from active politics. However, his protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2018, began to gather traction and support (now an act). He also filed a petition in the Supreme Court with TPF Supremo Patal Kanya Jamatia to cancel the CAA in Tripura and implement NRC with 1951 as the cut-off year. Bubagra Pradyot is a well-known personality in the public eye, and he had also spoken at TEDx Talks and other events.
He conducted a Q&A interactive session with students in Townhall, Agartala, on February 16, 2020. He addressed leadership, clarity, and topics like the Citizenship Amendment Act with the students in attendance. He also recommended that instead of erecting a statue, the Government of Tripura establish a scholarship in Maharaja Bir Bikram's name. He is also a regular guest speaker at colleges, including Harvard, and is one of India's most outspoken critics of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). Since the bill's passage in parliament in 2019, he has been protesting against the CAA.
