Rajkumar Hirani is one of the ace director, screenwriter, producer in the contemporary Bollywood. He is one of the directors who distinctively portrays the reality of the society with a touch of sarcasm and humor. He was born and brought up in Nagpur, Maharashtra and did his graduation in Commerce since because his dad wanted him to be a charted accountant. But he was more interested in filmmaking. His life took a significant turn when he joined Film And Television Institute of India, in Pune where he joined an editing course.

His early years were quite tough as he was not getting any major breakthroughs in the Bollywood which made him switch to the ad filmmaking and one of the famous advertisement he made was of ‘Fevicol” with a tag line of “Zor Lagake Haisha”, in which he was featured as well. Later in the year 1994, he collaborated with Vidhu Vinod Chopra and with him he made his first Bollywood venture as a promo designer for a film “1942 A Love Story”, starring Dhakk Dhakk girl Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Anil Kapoor.

Then, in the year 1998 he edited promos for the movie “Kareeb”, and later on, in 2000, he got a considerable opportunity as an editor for the movie “Mission Kashmir’. After three years, in the year 2003, he came up with an exemplary movie “Munna Bhai M.B.B.S”, which was his directorial debut and was one of the major hit of that year and also won the National Award for the best popular film. This film also won Film Fare award for best screenplay, dialogues, editing and critics choice award for best movie, this film made him a big name in the Bollywood, and started being recognized as one of the talented directors of Bollywood.

In 2005 he became the creative producer for the film, “Parineeta”, then in 2006 he came up with the sequel of his first major successful film Munna Bhai as “Lagey Raho Munnabhai”. This movie brought the whole new idea of patriotism called “Gandhi Giri.” This movie not just won the heart of the audience but also made him won the IIFA Award for the best director. In 2006, he made a multi starrer project “Ekalavya”, featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan, but Eklavya turned out to be a major disaster, but this did not affect him. In 2009, he came up with India's first highest grossing film “3 Idiots” starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Amir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Boman Irani.

This movie not just remained as cult classic, but is still loved by the youngsters. In the year 2014, he again collaborated with Amir Khan and Vidhu Vinod Chopra for the movie “PK”, which broke all the past box office records and was both critically and commercially acclaimed, and it was not only appreciated by the Indian audience but also became the highest Indian grossing film in China. In 2016, he is coming with the film “Sala Khadoos”, starring R. Madhavan as a sole producer.
