After his departure, Susmit Sen wanted to embark on an independent journey and start a solo career. He told media that his leaving the band will be beneficial for both Indian Ocean and could help him in retaining his creative expression as well.  Susmit Sen had been replaced by a young guitar player, Nikhil Rao.

He released his second solo-album in October 2013 and completed the same in following March. In July 2014, his dream project, ‘Ocean to Ocean’ was released. For this album, he had collaborated with Bernie Marsden, an English rock and blues guitarist. Later in the year, he released his memoir, ‘Ocean to Ocean: A Memoir’ co-written with Sehba Imam.

Not many know that in the year 2010, a full-length documentary film on the Indian music band, the Indian Ocean named as 'Leaving Home' was directed by Jaideep Varma Bio coming soon... >> Read More... . It was shot in 2006 and came to editing board in 2007/08. Later on, it hit the theater in 2010. The film chronicles the members of the band, The Indian Ocean since their formation in 1990 until the end of 2006 and showcases their music. Gargey Trivedi An Indian cinematographer who predominantly works >> Read More... and Paramvir Singh Bio coming soon... >> Read More... handled the cinematography. It was a 116-minute documentary film that fetched national award.

Quite, later on, a 286-minute version of the film (entitled The Longer Trip) was released on DVD in December 2010, which had updated version of the band’s history year after year, including the death of Asheem Chakravarty, in 2009. But this portion had never got an opportunity to reach the theaters.

In the year 2010, a new album was released named as  ‘16/330 Khajoor Road’ which was the sixth album by the Indian band, Indian Ocean. This album release also coincided with the tragic demise of Asheem Chakravarty. The band brought in two young talents, Himanshu Joshi for vocals and Tuheen Chakravarty, for Tabla. The lyrics are penned by Sanjeev Sharma.

Susmit Sen did his schooling from St. Xavier's School, Delhi in 1981 and completed his graduation from Hansraj College.
