Her father, Bharat Dev Varma is a member of the Tripura Royal Family. Her paternal grandmother was the Princess of Cooch Behar. Born on 24th January, 1981, Riya did her schooling from Rani Birla Girl’s College and after graduation, enrolled in Fashion designing at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi. She first starred in a music video at the age of sixteen. Her performance in “YaadPiya Ki AaneLagi” pulled attention to her. The music video encouraged Riya to model and soon gained popularity.
