Saqib Saleem also known as Saqib Saleem Qureshi (born 8 April 1988), is an Indian model turned actor based in Bollywood films. Before beginning his career in cinema, he was a full-time model. When he moved to Mumbai, Saleem started appearing in several ad films and subsequently managed a leading role in the Yash Raj Films. This romantic comedy, ‘Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge’ was released in 2011. It was an average hit. However, his performance in the film brought him critical acclamation.
Further success came for him with the leading roles in the films like Mere Dad Ki Maruti (2013),
(2014). Saleem is a part of the team Mumbai Heroes at the
Celebrity Cricket League
. Saqib Saleem comes from a Muslim family in Delhi. He is the son of Saleem Qureshi, who is a restaurateur, running a chain of 10 restaurants called Saleem’s in different locations of Delhi. His mother's name is Ameena Qureshi, who is a homemaker.
At some point in his college days, Saleem put his hands in the managing of the restaurants but was not fond of it. By that time, Saleem had started modeling already and later shifted to Mumbai. Saqib’s journey began as a cricketer for Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir. After moving to Mumbai, Saleem started out by doing a few modeling works, subsequently moving into television advertisements for famous brands like Tata Docomo, Pepsi, Airtel, Lays (with actor Ranbir Kapoor), Bar One, Sprite, KFC among others.
Shooting for the ads grew an interest in acting, and he wanted to try his luck in Bollywood films. Fashion designer Varun Bahl, a close friend of his, helped him to get a chance to audition for Yash Raj Films. After eight months of grueling auditions, he achieved the role in Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge. He also appeared in Mere Dad Ki Maruti (2013). At present, Saleem is filming for Vasan Bala's ‘Side Hero’, which is expected to be released in late 2015.
