Upendra Limaye

Upendra Limaye won the national film award for best supporting actor in the year 2010 for his role in a Marathi movie ‘Jogwa’. Upendra is a Marathi actor but even acted in some Hindi movies to date. Most of the films that he acted have mostly garnered positive critical reception. Many of his films had strong content and were filmed exceptionally well with super performances.

Though he was seen in a small role in all Hindi movies, he was watchable in every scene. In all Marathi films, he has been in the fine form. Because he had acted in Marathi movies, they had wonderful performances and had nice dramatic moments. Films like ‘Jogwa’, he carried the movie forward without losing out the gritty feel and retained the charisma of the central character ‘Tayappa’. The story was based on the exploitation of an oppressed society, and the tale of the movie was the most hardened and seasoned moviegoer would find the conclusion had been filmed well with the superlative performance of Upendra Limaye.

This film also fetched him a State Government award. In this movie, he did a police officer. Before making his debut in cinema, he enrolled in Lalit Kala Kendra, in Pune. Later, he came across some theater devotees and founded an experimental theater platform called ‘Parichay'. Soon, he acted in numerous experimental plays, Marathi parallel films, TV series and Hindi mainstream movies. He got a chance to act with directors like Amol Palekar, Jabbar Patil, Anant Mahadevan, etc. Since he formed his theater group ‘Parcihay’, he became an established actor, director, stage designer and even backstage performer too, His theater group ‘Parichay’ showcased a Marathi play ‘Kon Mhanato Takka Dila’ which was a huge success. He is married to Dr. Swati and has a daughter, Bhairavi and a son, Ved. He is born on 8 November 1969 in Maharashtra. Over the years, he has become a demanding actor in Hindi and Marathi movies.
