Bhupen Hazarika, born on September 8, 1926, was a talented Indian singer, filmmaker, lyricist, poet, and musician. He was born to Shantipirya and Nilakanta Hazarika in Sadiya, Assam. The couple had ten children including Bhupen. His father would migrate to different cities in search of better job opportunities.

Their mother was the first one who introduced all of them to music from a very young age. He has completed his education at Sonaram High School, Dhubri, a Government High School and Tezpur High School.

Bhupen impressed them so much that they asked him to travel with them to the city of Kolkata. There he recorded his first ever song for Selona Company in a studio called Aurora Studio. Since then, he began to bag even more projects and by the time he was thirteen he could also write lyrics. Some of the songs that he has sung are Gupute Gupute Kimaan Khelim, Snehe Aamar Xoto Shrabonor, Buku Hom Hom Kore, and many more. He then took a sabbatical and pursued Bachelor and Masters in Political Science.

After completing his post-graduation, he did a short stint at the Guwahati's All India Radio. Later, he shifted to the United States of America for further studies. She returned to India and took up a teaching job at a local school in Guhawati.

After few years, he quit and went to Kolkata to re-establish himself as a musician. After achieving the success, he veered towards filmmaking and made movies in not just the Assamese language but in Hindi too. He is the recipient of the Padma Shri, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan, and the Padma Vibhushan.

Arnab Jan Deka and Waesqurni Bora have also created and directed short films based on his life named Moi Eti Zazabor. Assam Cricket Association's authorities changed the name of Barshapara Cricket Stadium to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Cricket Stadium.

People of Assam love and respect him as he highlighted the culture and traditions of the Assam at the international level through his work. On November 5, 2011, he died in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute, Mumbai owing to multiple organ failures. Nearly half million people attended his funeral to pay him their respects.
