The most well-known film school in India is the government-run Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). It is situated in Pune on the erstwhile Prabhat Film Company's campus. The International Liaison Centre of Schools of Cinema and Television (CILECT), an association of the best cinema and television schools in the world, includes FTII as a member. The Institute offers two-year acting and art direction programmes, a one-and-a-half year computer graphics and animation school, and three-year post-graduate diploma programmes in film directing, editing, cinematography, and audiography. On July 20, 1950, Naseeruddin Shah was born in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, India. The grandfather of them all, he attended FTII to study acting and was a member of the group of actors-directors responsible for the 1970s and 1980s Indian new wave. Everyone is aware of Shah's body of work and shelves of honours and awards. He is an actor who has been noticed in movies including A Wednesday (2008), Monsoon Wedding (2001), and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003).

Bhansali was not allowed to finish his graduation film and was expelled from the Institute due to conflicts with coworkers and the previous institute head.
