The man on the left with the long blonde flowing hair, chiselled face, naughty stubble, and electric-guitar-in-hand is a man the world not only recognizes, but loves. Keith Lionel Urban is a country musician, known worldwide world for his soul-stirring, and hair-raising music! Keith is a New Zealand-born Australian-American is a multiple-time Grammy winner among other things: the highest form of award to be bestowed upon a musician. The guitarist-slash-singer-slash-song writer has a lot of credentials to his name. He was born to parents Robert and Marianne Urban on the 26th of October, in 1967. He grew up in Whangarei, New Zealand with his brother Shane, and that’s where he had his schooling. He went to the famous Sir Edmund Hillary College in Otara, located in Southern Auckland. However, the dreamer that he was, he never fit in in school.
His passion for music was too great to be subdued and he opted to pursue a career in music. He finally decided to quit his schooling at the age of just 15! His parents supported his passion and zeal for music wholeheartedly, and by the time Keith hit 17, he found himself living in Caboolture in Queensland, Australia. His father enrolled him in guitar lessons and signed him up for local competitions as well, where he played with his boyhood band. Keith Urban soon started gaining some stability in his musical career when he started becoming a regular performer for the Reg Lindsay Country Homestead TV Program. His courageousness and hunger to succeed was finally showing through. He and his at-the-time partner Jenny Wilson went on to even bag the Golden Guitar Award- a prestigious prize- at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
The ceiling was finally cracking and the light was now flowing him. Illuminating him to the world. With the spotlight starting to fall on him in the worldly music scene, he managed to release his debut album named after himself- ‘Keith Urban’ in the year 1991 in partnership with EMI Australia. He then shifted to the United States to pursue the proverbial American Dream… This is when he started seeing his career flop even before it took off, and he developed a cocaine habit. By 1998, he needed to go to rehab. Fighting through with tooth and nail, he managed to get clean, and released another self-titled album, his US debut. This proved to be the break he was looking for! His album ‘Golden Road’ showcased three tracks that reached the No. 1 position on the Hot Country Songs charts. Moreover, the same album also grew to become a platinum in his home country Australia and reached multi-platinum status in Canada and the States. He also went on to receive a staggering four Grammy Awards in the category of Best Male Country Vocals. He also became a judge on the super-hit singing TV shows The Voice and American Idol, cementing his legacy.
