Pierre Gramegna is a former lobbyist and career diplomat who was born on 22nd of April 1958, in Esch-Sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. At the moment, Pierre is the Minister for Finances in the Bettel–Schneider ministry. Pierre grew up in his home town, Esch-Sur-Alzette. He did his tertiary education at Panthéon-Assas University, where he pursued studied economics and law, he graduated with a masters degree in civil law at the university in the year 1981, and an economics science degree in the year 1982. He proceeded to do his post-graduate education with a DEA in community law.
After graduation, in 1983, Pierre joined Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In between 1988 and 1993 Gramegna worked as a political affair and economic adviser at the Luxembourg embassy in Paris. Pierre subsequently got appointed as director and consul general of San Francisco's Board of Economic Development. From 1996 to 2002, Gramegna served as Luxembourg's ambassador to South Korea and Japan. In 2003 Pierre became the director-general of Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, he held this post up to 2013, when he was asked to join the government. In 2013 Pierre Gramegna participated in the general elections and got appointed as the Minister for Finances in the Bettel–Schneider ministry, shortly before being sworn in Gramegna joined the Democratic Party.
