John Hawkes is a veteran actor who is known for his contribution to Hollywood. He has distinguished himself by his exemplary performance in several movies and television series. John Hawkes was born in Minessota as John Marvin Perkins to a farming family. He later moved to Austin, Texas, where he began working on his career as a musician. He joined a band called ‘Meat Joy’ with Gretchen Phillips and also formed a band called ‘King Stragglers,’ all the band members would go on to become actors themselves. They moved the band to Los Angeles soon after which he started doing stage shows. He performed and wrote Nimrod Soul, a one-man show which showcased his skills to the talent hunters of the city. During this period, he adopted the stage name John Hawkes. He made his debut in the 1985 film ‘Future Kill.’ He went on to play supporting roles in the movies, ‘Flesh and Bone (1993),’ ‘From Dusk Till Dawn (1996),’ and ‘I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998).’ H gained a lot of popularity for portraying Bugsy, the doltish fisherman in ‘The Perfect Strom (2000).’ He featured in several popular television series. He was part of HBO’s ‘Deadwood’ as Sol Star. He was also a part of ABC’s ‘Lost’ and ‘Eastbound and Down.’
Hawkes was presented with the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male Actor and several other accolades, including an Academy Award nomination for his appearance in Winter’s Bone in 2010. He won another Independent Spirit Award for the movie ‘Sessions’ and was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award. His film, ‘Me and You and Everyone We Know (2005),’ was showered with high critical acclaim and went on to receive the special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival, and the Camera d'Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival. His ingratiating performance in Hollywood has made him an audience favorite.
