Piu Mukherjee is a talented musician of Indian origin. She was born in Howrah, West Bengal. From a young age, music was a part of her life, and she was fortunate enough to have a mother and grandfather who could guide her on her musical journey. Her grandfather had himself been a disciple of Sangeet Samrat Vishmadev Chatterjee, so she had a strong foundation on which to build her skills. She was guided by Prof. Nihar Ranjan Bandopadhyay, the former head of the department of Rabindra Bharati University, and later by Sangeet Samragnyee Padmabibhushan Smt. Girija Devi, under whom she did her rigorous Riyaaz. She has also completed her Post Graduation in Islamic History & Culture and B.Ed. from the University of Calcutta. Her dedication and hard work soon paid off, as she began to receive recognition in professional performance arenas.

She was titled as the best vocalist in Khayal & Thumri on numerous distinguished platforms, including the Pashchim Banga Rajya Sangeet Academy, Salt Lake Cultural Association, Pt. Ravi Kichlu Foundation, Dover Lane, and many others. In 1999, she won the Pt. Krishna Kumar Ganguly (Natu Babu) Award for Kheyal, and she was soon placed 1st in Thumri / Dadra / Tappa in the All India Radio Competition. In 2001, she won the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Tourism & Culture, Govt of India, proving her determination once again. In 2017, she was awarded the Girija Devi Puraskar (Vikshit Kalakar) in the All India Puravang Gayaki Utsav, New Delhi. She has also performed solo in various noteworthy concerts in India and abroad.

Piu has also taken part in the musical reality show Zee Bangla Sa Re Ga Ma Pa (2015-16) and has proven herself as a versatile performer. Piu has shared the stage with Smt. Girija Devi on several occasions, including notable stages like Gulap Bari, Sawai Gandharv Sangeet Mahotsav, and Dovar Lane Music Conference. In addition, Piu is a regular artist on All India Radio and a frequent performer on regional television channels. Apart from her vocal abilities, Piu has also honed her oratory skills and continues to host shows for Kolkata Doordarshan. Today, she carries forward the legacy of Hindustani Classical & Semi Classical Music tradition.
