Manik Bandyopadhyay, born Prabodhkumar Bandyopadhyay is an Indian Author of Bengali Literature in the 21st Century. Manik was born on 19th May 1908 in Dumka, Bengal Presidency, British India. Manik Bandyopadhyay’s father is Harihar Bandyopadhyay and mother is Niroda Devi. Manik studied Bachelor of Science from Presidency College in Calcutta. Manik wrote his first story named Atasimami, and created a sensation in the literary circle of Bengal. In 1944 Manik joined the Communist Party of India and Manik remained a member of the party until his death. Manik in his literary career wrote 306 short stories, 38 novels, one book of essays and one book of poems.
Manik’s notable novels includes Dibaratrir Kavya (1935), Janani (1935), Padma Nadir Majhi (1936), putul Nacher Itikatha (1936), Shahartoli (1940), Chatushkone (1942), Chinha (1947), and Halud Nadi Sabuj Bon (1956). Manik also wrote short stories like Atmahatyar Adhikar, Haludpora, Namuna, Shilpi, Sailaja Shila, Pragoitihashik, Sarishrip, Aaj Kal Porshur Galpo, Tomorrow and Day After, Haraner Natjamai, Upay, and Chhotobokulpurer Jatri. Manik also wrote stories for movies like The Day Shall Dawn (1959, Pakistani movie), Dibratrir Kabya (1970), Calcutta 71, Choto Bakulpurer Jatri, Jake Ghoosh Dite Hoy, and Shilpi. Manik Bandyopadhyay died on 3rd December 1956 in Kolkata, west Bengal, India.
