Shah Abdul Karim is a famous Baul musician from Bangladesh. He was born on 15 February 1916, in Derai, in Sunamganj, Sylhet. He began to learn music from Baul Shah Ibrahim Mastan Baksh. Traditionally, Baul musicians are often unmarried, but Mr. Karim was married with his wife, Sarla Bibi, and has children together. He was awarded the “Ekushey” award by the government of Bangladesh in 2001. He has created over 1600 songs, and most of which are highly famous. His famous songs include "Agey Ki Shundor Din Kataitam,” "Keno Piriti Baraila Re Bondhu," "Murshid Dhono He Kemone Chinibo Tomare," "Nao Banailo Banailo Re Kon Mestori," "Ashi Bole Gelo Bondhu," and "Mon Mojale Ore Bawla Gaan," Bonde Maya lagaise." Karim has done some of the remarkable work in his time, and a few of his works are translated in English by the Bangla Academy. His work has been categorized in six books: Aftab Sangeet (1948), Gano Sangeet (1957), Kalnir Dheu (1981), Dholmela (1990), Bhatir Chithi (1998), and Kalnir Kooley (2001). He died in 2009 due to some respiratory problems.
