Nikhil Ghosh was an Indian musician, teacher, and writer. He was born on 28 December 1918, in Barishal, Bangladesh, and died on 3 March 1995. He was a master in playing the instrument 'Tabla'. He received Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan Award. He was also honored with the Padma Bhushan, in 1990, by the government of India, for his contribution to music. In the year 1956, he founded Sangeet Mahabharata, a school for classical music education. He was survived by his wife Usha Nayampally and sons Nayan Ghosh and Shrubs Ghosh as well as his daughter, Tulika Ghosh. He not only performed in India but abroad also. He also visited many universities across the world as a visiting faculty.Â
