Dhananjay Bhattacharya was an eminent Bengali music composer, born on September 10, 1922. He unfortunately left the world at the age of 70 on December 27, 1992. He started his career by singing modern Bengali and Hindi songs. Jodi Bhule Jao More/Janabo na Abhiman was the song that marked his debut in 1940. His first playback was in the year 1943. Dhananjay was married and had three sons. Singer Pannalal was his younger brother. He studied at Rivers Thompson School, Bally, and Howrah.
Only Dipankar among all three sons of his, has accepted responsibility for continuing his father's legacy. He is best known for singing Shyama Sangeet. He sang 23 songs in the movie Sadhak Ramprasad (1956). He is proficient in singing a wide range of song genres and styles, such as contemporary Bengali, Hindustani classical music, Rabindra Sangeet, Kirtan, Bhajan, Baul, and Ramprasadi, Nazrul, Geeti, and Shyama Sangeet. He recorded more than 500 songs. Almost 400 songs were written by him as a lyricist under the names “Shri Partha'' and “Shri Anandsa''. He has also acted in some films, including Pasher Bari and Nababidhan. Dhanajay won the Gold Prize for his devotional songs in Rani Rashmoni.
