Himangshu Dutta was a celebrated music composer based in West Bengal. Born in 1908 in Comilla (which has now become a part of modern-day Bangladesh), he was very fond of music from a very young age. Many classical singers used to stop by his home and sing when he was young. Because of this, he developed a liking for classical music in him. His mother was an incredible singer and used to sing Rabindra Sangeet flawlessly. His mother was also probably, his first teacher of music. He showed his talent to a large audience when he sang his composition at his school function. The audience liked his singing. The song which we sang had its lyrics written by his friend. Sometime later, he also got a chance to give in front of Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore liked his signing very much.

His career saw an enormous boost when the singer Sudhamadhab Dutta sang two of his composition at All India Radio, Kolkata. The radio helped his music to reach a broader audience in the whole of West Bengal. Himangshu Dutta had his compositions released by the Gramophone Company of India. It was the year 1931 when it was released. The same year another record of his was released with singer Sati Devi singing his compositions. It was a big hit. With the advent of sound in the Indian film industry, many composers started making music for films. Himangshu Dutta was no different. Himangshu Dutta quickly moved to give his compositions in films. Both in the Hindi and Bengali language. He was talented in many forms of Indian classical music and raga-based classical music. His talent can be seen by listening to compositions.
