Manju Dey was an Indian actress, director, producer, and playback singer. She was born on 7 May; 1926, at Berhampore, India. She began her schooling at Berhampore Girls School and then continued in Rajendra College in Patna and Ashutosh College in Kolkata. She is recalled for her spectacular roles in movies like Hemen Gupta's ‘Biyalis’ and Ajoy Kar's ‘Jighansa’ (1951). She received the BFJA award for her astonishing performance as the Best Supporting Actress in ‘Carey Saheber Munshi’ (1961). She also tried her hands as a director and producer. She directed literary adaptations like ‘Abhishapta Chambal’ (1964), and ‘Shajarur Kanta’ (1974). She also produced these movies. She was a playback singer in ‘Ram Dhakka’ (1966).
Manju Dey led an eventful life. She was a representative of India at the Jakarta International Film Festival of 1962. Some movies that Manju Dey was a part of being ‘Ratnadeep’ (1951), ‘Griha Pravesh’ (1954), ‘Laksha-Hira’ (1956), ‘Prithibi Amaare Chay’ (1957), ‘Neel Akasher Neechey’ (1958), and ‘Arpita’ (1983). She moved to Pondicherry at the end of her life. Dey died on 30 September 1989, leaving a legacy of brilliance behind.
