Chandrabati Devi was an Indian actress, born on October 19, 1909, in Bihar. She worked in Bengali cinema and Bollywood. She debuted in 1929 with the silent film Piyari and ruled the cinema as Meera in Debaki Bose's classic movie Meerabai in 1933.
She went to school and then completed her education at Bethune College. She learned Rabindrasangeet from Dinendranath. Chadrabati's sister, Kanabati, was her inspiration, motivation, and most powerful supporter in her life.
Kanabati was also a well-known personality in the film industry. Kanabati invoked the desire for acting inside Chandrabati and encouraged her to join the acting field. Kankabati was quite protective and strict as a sister to Chandra.
Chandrabati had to complete her studies first and then step into the film industry, which was disappointing for her. She has to manage both things at once.
She was married to Bimal Pal. After marriage, she gave birth to a baby, but her passion for acting didn't expire. She asked her husband to work in the film industry again, but he didn't support her desire. He had his thoughts and inhibitions. He thought that people suffered from a disastrous quality of life after being a part of this industry. Now, Chandrabati had to choose between her family and her career.
She was a career-driven woman who chose to leave her family and work in the film industry. She had her own production house known by the name "Partnership Movie Producers with Bimal Pal", but the partnership broke when she joined a new theatre in 1993. She also had a talkie show house in Shyambazar.
She was an extremely talented woman who had a good deal of knowledge about music and literature. Her husband, Tarashankar Bandopadhyay, who was an author, praised her writings. She had a powerful impact on the world of literature.
She worked on the legendary masterpiece "Devdas," where she played the role of Chandramukhi. She was a little sad after getting the Chnadramukhi character because she wanted to play Parvati's character. After completing the film, she gained a lot of appreciation for it. Chandrabati played the role of Urmila in Shishir Bhaduri's film, in which her sister plays the role of Sita.
She worked in many films, including Laksha Heera in 1956, Harano Sur 'Harano Sur' is a romantic drama that was >> Read More... in 1957, and Protishurti in 1941. She is best known for her roles in the films Pujarin (1936) and Raja-Saja (1960).
She died at the age of 82 in Kolkata on April 29, 1992, after contributing a significant part of her life to the film industry.
