Prabhat Mukherjee, born in 1917, was an Indian film director, writer and actor. He has worked in Bengali, Assamese, Odia, and Hindi cinema. He gave a start to his career with All India Radio. His debut film as a director was Maa(1956). He was featured in a cult film named Bicharak, alongside

in 1959. This film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali. He directed and wrote the script for the Assamese Film, Puberun, released in 1959. It was screened at the Berlin Film Festival in 1960. He made five Odia films, including Ratnakar, Nuabou, Jeevan Sathi, and Sadhana. He directed the biography film Shayar-E-Kashmir Mahjoor, based on Kashmiri Post, Ghulam Ahmed. He died in 1997 at the age of eighty.Â
