Abheri De

Abheri De is a Bengali cinematographer from the town of Kolkata. She graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, in 2004 with a degree of B.Sc. in Mass Communication and Videography. During her college days, she developed and recognized her passion for cinema and decided to pursue a 3-year PG Diploma in Cinematography from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, which she completed in the year 2014.

She then got to work as a Chief AC and Operative Camera Person with her seniors from FTII, DoP Savita Singh and DoP Reshmi Sarkar. Her first work as an independent Director of Photography was in Bitnoon, a Bengali film. Soon after, she worked in Onyo Basanto for ZEE Bangla Originals, which did quite well.

Abheri and her team also won the Satyajit Ray Silver Award, 2018 for the documentary Calcutta Sonata, which premiered at KIFF 2018. Another one of her documentaries premiered at the KIFF 2019, named Drama Queen. Currently, she lives in her hometown, Kolkata, where she teaches in the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute as an Assistant Professor of the Department of Cinematography for Electronic and Digital Media. She continues to shoot short films, corporate videos and documentaries.
