After playing comedic character roles, it was through Satyajit Ray's evergreen film Parash Pathar, Dutta became a well-known name among the audience. Apart from playing the iconic role of Jatayu, Dutta has also portrayed iconic roles such as the dual roles of the kings of "Halla" and "Shundi" in Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne.
