Plot

Rathnasamy is the owner of Amudha Café. This restaurant in Ooty is popular for its Sambar. Rathnasamy has a son, Karthik, and a daughter. Unfortunately, Rathnasamy succumbs to a heart attack. He wants to confess about his past to his son Karthik. On his deathbed, Rathnasamy tells his son that he had an affair with Amudha, a woman, before marrying Karthik’s mother. Rathnasamy and Amudha have a son named Sachin Babu, who lives in Chennai. Getting a promise from his son Karthik that he will meet his half-brother Sachin and bring him to his final rites, Rathnsamy departs from the world. Karthik is all set to find out his elder half-brother. Sachin runs a roadside eatery, which is popular for chutney. Will Karthik meet Sachin? The rest of the series deals with the family getting united.

Star Performance

Yogi Babu is excellent in the role as Sachin. He had always done what suited him, and in Chutney Sambar, he had done the same. Chandran, Myna Nandhini, and Nithin Sathya are perfect in their roles. Vani Bhojan and Charle delivered natural performances. Radha Mohan’s company artist Kumaravel has also done a small role.

Analysis

The story is simple. Radha Mohan has delivered some mind-blowing movies on the silver screen. Whether it is Abhiyum Naanum Abhiyum Naanum is the Tamil serial telecasted on S >> Read More... or Mozhi or the serious film 60 Vayadhu Maaniram, he has made the audience feel for the characters. Chutney Sambar also has some emotional moments. However, with Yogi Babu’s presence, it is made in a light-hearted way. Certain scenes are shot excellently, making the audience hooked to the screen if Karthik and his family accept Sachin as their family member. Yogi Babu is a perfect choice and almost all the characters are perfectly picked. The comedy dialogues are okay. The visuals are excellent. The BGM is decent.

Verdict

Chutney Sambar is a good family entertainer with enough laugh-out-loud moments and a few emotional moments. It is definitely watchable once!
