Uppu Puli Karam is a web series directed by Ramesh Baarathi. The series streams on Disney + Hotstar. It is based on the South Korean series My Father is Strange. Arun Suradhaa composed the theme music. B. Srinivasan and Raadhika Srinivasan produced the series under the Vikatan Televistas Pvt Ltd banner. R. V. Parthiba Krishna cranked the camera, and PM Achuthan edited the series.  Plot

Subramani and Subbalakshmi are the parents of three daughters, Chinmayi, Keerthi, and Yashika, and a son, Udhay. Subramani and Subbalakshmi run a mess, Chinmayi is a lawyer, and Udhay prepares for IAS exams. While Chinmayi has some issues that are yet to be solved with her ex-lover Shiva, Yashika suffers from body shaming issues. Though there had been a few issues like this, their lives had been moving smoothly until a celebrity, Thippu, visited them and told them that he was also the son of the family. Everyone in the family is shocked. However, Subramani decides to consider Thippu as his son. His decision shocked his children. Who is Thippu? Did Chinmayi solve her issues with Shiva? The rest of the series showcases all these.

Star Performance

Ponvannan and Vanitha fit perfectly in the given roles. Ayesha as a lawyer, is impressive. Krishna plays a director and he is apt for the role. Raj Ayyappa, Ashwini Aanandita and Deepika Venkatachalam have done their parts well.

Analysis

Unlike some web series, Uppu Puli Kaaram didn’t release all the episodes at once. It releases each episode on a regular basis, like a TV series. The first few episodes of the series had the character establishment processes. After establishing all the major characters, the story started moving with regular laughs, fights, and other emotions in a family. Chinmayi’s character is well-built as a headstrong woman. The open-hearted dialogue of Subramani is interesting. Though the series has some interesting elements, we can feel that it doesn’t acknowledge the mindset of the latest generation. While sometimes the characters’ dialogues appear to be good, sometimes they seem to be immature.
