No matter how depressed one is feeling, no matter what challenge one is going through that life has thrown at them, parent’s love and wisdom gives them courage to solve any problem. But what if a child has always felt love from one parent and absolute neglect from the other? Shakti explores the central theme of how the fate of children, depends upon their childhood memories. More specifically, how Soumya, and Surabhi, suffer in the hands of neglecting parents. Both the girls were deprived of an education, friends, and even toys.
It’s like their childhood was taken away from them. Soumya, is unable to understand the indifference her father and grand mother show towards her and finds solace only in her mother's arms. She feels insignificant to her father and is always carrying a bit of sadness. On the other hand, Surabhi gets everything she wants, except for the one thing she yearns for, her mother's love. Why are there these heart-breaking rifts in this family? What had made parents discriminate between their daughters? The story deals with that.
