Payal Shukla as Kanchan​She is a twenty years old orphan who lives with her room-mate Kanchan. Kanchan and her personal diary are her best friends within whom she confides and are the only ones whom she considers her own. The thought of lying to someone gives her jitters but she is not afraid of standing up for what she thinks is right. She is responsible and is a mother-like figure in the hostel, even though she has never known what a mother truly is. Her honest,sweet and compliant nature is liked by one and all.

Payal Shukla as Kanchan: Suman’s best friend and room-mate. Kanchan is vivacious and full of life. She has never been loaded with too much responsibility since she is the youngest of the three siblings. She is pampered by the entire family including her elder brothers, Karan and Kartik; but she keeps her limits in mind and makes it a point not to do anything which will infuriate her elders or will break the customs of her house.

Shoaib Ibrahim as Karan: Kanchan's twenty three years old brother Karan is a born charmer. He charms everyone with his never ending tales, his forgetfulness, his outgoing nature and his endearing smile. His helpful nature lands him in trouble many a times but that is just makes it another reason for everyone to love him. No one can help but get attracted to him and Suman is no exception!

Sumit Vyas as Karthik: The elder of the two brothers, Karthik is just the opposite of Karan. He is quiet, talks to the point, reserved but has a heart of gold. At the age of twenty six, he shoulders more responsibility than most of the people in the household. Dadaji sees a reflection of himself in Karthik because of the latter’s responsible and dependable nature. He respects elders, adheres to family traditions and is an ideal son. Rajendra Gupta as Thakur Surya Pratap Singh (Dadaji-Grandfather). The head of the household.

Sunayana Fozdar as Nandini: She is chosen by Kadambari for Karthik, during Karan and Suman's wedding. She is insecure of her relationship with Karthik and thinks that he is always giving Suman more importance than her. She is easily manipulated by Vidya Bua (Aunt) and goes as far as getting Suman kidnapped to keep Karthik for herself.

Show concept

This is the story of a young orphaned woman Suman who lives in a girls' hostel with her best friend Kanchan. Kanchan is from a rich, traditional and loving family. Suman’s dream of finding family and love comes true when she gets a chance to be a part of an extremely lovable and traditional joint family. Kanchan's mother Kadambari meets Suman and decides to get her married to Karthik. Suman meets Kadambari's son Karan and they take a sudden liking for each other. To Suman's shock, it is revealed that she has been chosen for Karthik. Suman has to choose between her love for Karan and the feelings of a family which treated her like a daughter. After facing many difficulties, Karan and Suman get married. On the way to their honeymoon, the brakes of their car fail.

Karan shoves Suman out but is unable to get out himself. The car dives into a waterfall and Karan is presumed dead. After that, the whole family begins to hate Suman, except for Karthik and his fiancé Nandini. But even Nandini becomes an enemy when she sees that Karthik cares for Suman. Karthik gets married to Nandini. But their marriage breaks up when Nandini's evil nature is exposed in front of the whole family. After a lot of ups and downs, Suman is once again accepted by her in-laws. By now, she and Karthik are in love. They get married with the blessings of the family. Just then, Karan comes back alive, and is very angry about Suman’s re-marriage. He tries to break their relationship but fails.

Later, Karan marries a young woman named Paro and is happy with her. Fate plays another trick on Suman. A young widow related to Suman's father-in-law comes to stay with the family. This woman is attracted to Karthik. She tries to potray that Karthik has played with her modesty under the influence of a drug. She pretends to be expecting his child. Karthik is forced to promise her that he will marry her. The woman kidnaps Suman and kills her. Suman's spirit comes back and exposes her killer before leaving the world. Karthik and his family are heartbroken at losing Suman. A few years later, there is another Suman in the family – Karan and Paro's little daughter. But the vacuum in Karthik's life remains unfilled.
