Kalyanathukku Kalyanam is a light-hearted daily series that came on the Doordarshan network. It is a Tamil language show and first premiered on Indian television screens in the year 1987. It featured a stellar ensemble who all played the lead roles. This included the talented Varadharajan, who later went on to gain fame as a news reader. The series was an extremely popular and successful one and ran for well over six-hundred episodes. It got produced by the versatile Mohan Rangachari who became famous under the moniker of Crazy Mohan.
Mohan is one of the most talented and versatile people to emerge from the Tamil entertainment industry. He is a highly gifted actor, comedian, noted scriptwriter, and an acclaimed playwright as well. He started writing a variety of plays as well as dramas for professional stage performances right from when he was studying to earn his engineering degree. He even established his personal drama troupe in the year 1979. They performed under the stage name of Crazy Creations. In addition to working in numerous dramas and television serials, he also worked in the capacity of dialogue writer over the course of various comedy movies. Over the course of his career, he has written more than thirty plays and worked in over forty films featuring in different cameos in every one of these films. He is also the author of over a hundred short stories.
S. Ravi, who served as the President of the group Tamil Manram, was his classmate and served as his mentor for the initial years. Prior to pursuing a full-time career as a writer, Mohan went to work for the Sundaram - Clayton Ltd. While in college, he wrote the skit Great Bank Robbery, for performing in an inter-college contest. He received the awards for Best Actor as well as Best Writer for the play. He got the same from none other than the superstar
Kamal Haasan himself. This got followed up with a few scripts for
Maadhu Balaji, who is his younger brother.
Maadhu's drama troupe performed the same at the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College located in Chennai. He penned his first full-length play in the year 1976, and it got titled Crazy Thieves in Paalavakkam. This got performed at the Natakapriya and was an immediate hit which got loved by people. It was after this that he got the moniker of "Crazy" Mohan. Some of his other famous creations include the scripts of both Tenant Commandments as well as One More Exorcist.
