Shararat-thoda jadu, thodi nazaakat was an Indian Fantasy fiction show, broadcasted on Star Plus. The show was created by UTV Software Communications and directed by Rajiv Mehra. The title track of the show was sung by famous singer Sunidhi Chauhan and went on to become very famous. The show was produced by Ronnie Srewwala, Zarina Mehta and Deven Khote. The show was such a hit, especially among the kids that it was re-telecasted on Disney Channel India, TV Asia and Star Utsav. The Show was adapted and inspired from the famous and successful American show- Sabrina, The Teenage Witch

Disney channel India had bough the rights of the show in September, 2010 and in July, 2011, post the successs of its remade series, Best of Luck, Nikki!!, Disney stated that it intended to reboot Shararat and premeire it in January 2012. For this, all the reruns would have to be pulled of by the makers. The re-runs ended in December 2011. However, disney later dropped the plan and instead showed ‘The suite life of Karan and Kabir’.

The story of Shararat revolved round the life of Jiya, a teenage witch, played by the bubbly Shruti Seth. She was the great-great-great-great granddaughter of Rani Ma, the Fairy Goddess of Paristhan. Her mother Radha, played initially by Poonam Narula and later by Eva Grover, had fallen for a human, Dr. Suraj Malhotra played by Mahesh Thakur, got married and decided to stay on earth. Jiya stays with her family, comprising herself, her mother, father, her younger brother Jai, played by Suhail Jaffer and her Nani – Sushma Mehra(maternal grandmother), played by the sweet Farida Jalal, who is also a fairy. Other Characters include – Druv, played by Karanvir Bohra- on whom Jiya has a huge crush and also ends up married to by the end of the show, Shanti Sabarwal played by Shoma Anand who smells something fishy in the Malhotra household and comes borrowing to their house for different things, Parminder aka Pam, Shanti’s niece played by Simple Kaul who hates Jiya and wants to steal Druv away, Meeta played by Aditi Shirwaiker who is Jiya’s best friend and Raja played by Harsh Vashisht, Druv’s best friend and Meeta’s love interest. The show opens with Jiya celebrating her 18th birthday, and being blessed with the fairy powers, like her mother and grandmother. She is unaware of her these powers and its usage.

The shows though the story of Jiya has many parallel tracks. The most important ofcourse is that of Jiya who is trying to adjust to her new found powers while trying to impress Druv and dealing with Pam’s antics. There is also Suraj and his khatti-meethi fights with his mother-in law – Sushma who always keeps using magic on him. There is also Radha, who is stuck between her husband and mother who have two different opinions on marriage. And last but not the least the fantasies of Meeta and her vowing Raja. The show thus is a full-on roller coaster ride and aptly named ‘Shararat’

The show premeired on 9th November, 2004 and ended on 30th April, 2009, completely five seasosn successfully.
