Ishmeet Singh Sodhi was a popular singer who gained popularity after winning the singing reality show Amul STAR Voice of India.
Ishmeet Singh was born in Ludhiana Punjab to Gurprinder Singh and Amritpal Kaur. He received his musical training in Kirtan singing from Principal Sukhwant Sing of Gur Shabad Sangeet Academy and from his uncle Dr. Chara Kamal Singh. He was a natural talent who had not received classical music training, a point which was raised several times in the show by the judges.
He entered the reality show at 17 and won the title of the show on 24 November, 2007. After the show, Ishmeet, as promised, released a religious musical album.
Ishmeet Singh drowned on 29 July 2008 at the Chaaya Island Dhonveli resort in Maldives. The family suspected of foul play and requested a probe. There were suspicious head injuries which increased the suspicion of foul play.
The funeral of Ishmeet Singh was attended in huge numbers by commoners and celebrities. The local market was closed down in his respect. After his death, BIG music released to albums to celebrate his memory and pay tribute. The first album was entitled Mool Mantar and the second album was titled We'll Miss You. Principal Sukhwant Singh and Ishmeet's father Gurpinder Singh travelled to Malaysia to the resort and spread the message of the Ishmeet Singh Foundation.
