Maayka – Saath Zindagi Bhar Ka was a dramatic series on Zee TV, which premiered on January 15th , 2007 and lasted until August 14th , 2009. The show was initially produced by the Anjana Sood’s production house and Klassic Productions, but later was produced by Dheeraj Kumar of Creative eye due to the delays and high cost of production. Almost all of the cast members were replaced and it ended their appearances by a bomb explosion. The cast members sued the Zee TV channel and the CINTAA (Cine and TV Artistes Association) outlawed them. Maayka was about Raji (Urmila Kanitkar), Soni (Aarti Singh/ Shilpa Shinde/ Kanchi Kaul) and Mahi (Neha Bamb), the three daughters of the Mohini Malhorta clan.
Prince was their younger brother. The first part of the story was centered around Raji, the eldest who married Veer, a police officer who resisted on adjusting to the Malhorta’s way of living. Later on, a bomb explosion took place in Mohini Malhorta’s house which killed Raji and nearly everyone in her family. The only survivors left were Soni and Mahi, who struggled to fight for their lives. Mahi then married Shabd Sareen (Vivan Bhatena) and Soni married Veer, despite of the fact was that, she and Jeet (Vikrant Rai / Romit Raj), were in love with each other. Jeet was Veer’s younger brother.
One day, Veer was tragically killed while Soni was pregnant with their child. Then Jeet and Soni got soon got married. Meanwhile, the sisters soon discover that their mother, Mohini Malhorta (Zarina Wahab/ Nandita Puri) was still alive. The rest of the story depicts how Soni and Mahi started having certain misunderstandings when they found their mother and how they finally resolved it. Sudheer Pandey, Mohini Sharma, Amrapali Dubey, Neha Bamb, Pankaj Berry, Naresh Suri, Neelima Panjrekar were also part of the show along with many other actors and actresses. The show also received many awards such as 2008 New Talent Awards for Best Actor in a Negative Role, 2007 Zee Rishton Ka Utsav for Favorite Behen-Behen Rishta, Favorite Jeeja-Saali Ka Rishta and Favorite Paapiyon Ki Jodi and 2007 ITA Awards for Best Lyricist.
