Navarasa Thilagam, which claims itself to be a comedy ride, has been released recently. Well, let’s see how the film turns out to be.

Plot

Ma Ka Pa Anand is the typical carefree guy whom we have got used to seeing in Tamil films. Though he is irresponsible, he wants to see a smile on other’s face. He has a friend, Karunakaran, along with whomhe turns loser while venturing into a business. And this visibly angers Anand’s dad, Ilavarasu.

And there should be the romantic element right? Otherwise, how will the hero gain solace after being scorned by his father? And in this film, it’s the beautiful Srushti Dange..There’s a twist in the story when Anand falls for Srushti, who is a pragmatic girl Watch the movie to know the rest of the story.

Star Performances

Ma Ka Pa Anand (who was one of the male leads of the 2014 flick Vaanavarayan Vallavarayan) has done a good job as the irresponsible guy. However, he could have worked more on emotions. Srushti Dange (how can one forget her charm in the song “Puttham Puthu Kaalai”) looks very pretty and has given an earnest performance. Sidharth Vipin gives the film the much-needed zest with his way of delivering dialogues. He impresses us as an antagonist with shades of comedy. Jayaprakash and Karunukaran could have done better.

Analysis

This is the debut film of director Kamran, and he has tried to infuse the film with comedy. But we tend to get confused whether the film really belongs to the genre of comedy.

What’s there?

  • The solace is that the movie is not interspersed with double meaning dialogues.
  • The sketching of the lead characters is good.

What’s not there?

  • Sidharth Vipin’s music is not convincing in Navarasa Thilagam which has fusion songs.
  • Arul Mozhi Varman’s editing could have been crisper.
  • Director Kamran’s screenplay fails to hold the attention of the audience throughout the movie.
  • There are many times when you feel that you have seen the scene before.  The film is highly nostalgic.

Verdict

Considering that this a debut attempt by the director and has some good performances Navarasa Thilagam can be watched once.
