Plot
The film is set in Arakkonam, a railway town in Chennai, in the 90s. Ranjith (played by Ashok Selvan) and Rajesh (Shanthnu Bhagyaraj) are the team captains of two rival cricket teams. Belonging to two different communities, fights often arise between these groups. The movie shows how the characters develop and possess an outlook on society and the playing field and how they eventually bridge the gap.
Star Performance
Ashok Selvan does absolute justice to his role as a youth in his twenties. He is well able to portray the mannerisms and body language of his character. He captivates the spirit of the cricket lover, Ranjith. The beautiful Keerthi Pandian, who plays the counterpart of Ashok, does a very good job. Their chemistry could be seen on screen, and their romance is simple but captivating. Shanthnu’s acting is another notable feature. With a quick and captivating smile, he plays the role of the rival team captain, as was expected. The other actors also gave excellent performances, of which the acting from Bhagavati Perumal and Saju Navodaya was noteworthy.
Analysis
The movie focuses on the rivalry between cricket teams. It clearly shows the connection between politics and sports and how it often affects the life of the youth, particularly in the village setup. The elements of realism were well depicted. Class and caste inequalities and the portrayal of the village system were accurate. The narrative is pretty straightforward, rising above a single match to show class oppression on the playing field. While the movie does have a romance subplot, it is not solely focused on the romantic element. Also, everyone gets to have their own romance. Govind Vasantha’s background score gives the feel of a sports movie.

Verdict
The movie is an absolute banger. Unlike usual sports movies where the entire storyline depends on the outcome of a single match, the film rises above this in order to lay out the unseen and untalked politics and oppressions faced by the sportspersons on the so-called equalizing field. It is a movie that definitely ought to be watched and has rewatch value.
