Plot
The struggle of the main lead to maintain a family secret surrounded by some confusing situations and a nosy neighborhood that leads to slapstick comedy and later family bonding.
Star performance
Saiju Kurup delivers a fantastic performance as Shashidharan, portraying the internal conflict smoothly stuck between his family and the community.
Saikumar as the head of the family brings solemnity. The rest of the cast has also done an excellent job bringing authenticity.
Analysis
Bharathanatyam is a hilarious yet emotional ride. Exploration of another family and its struggle the makers balance it seamlessly turning an emotional situation narrative into acceptance and bonding. The actors do their job perfectly, making you laugh and cry. The cinematography allows viewers to see the contrast between family and the outside world. The songs of the film are good. Although some of the scenes are designed to generate laughter from the audience, it doesn't bring that out. And some moments where the audience would question the logic, like “a nurse eating leftovers of a patient. Really!”. One of the most significant plus points of this film is that it doesn't spoon-feed the audience, a trope seen in many comedy films. Bharathanatyam conveys the message that love can overcome anything. The film is neither forgettable nor a standout. It's in the middle, making it a one-time watch.
