CAST & CREW
A misunderstanding that develops between two self- confident people, who are depending on each other. Balki scripted and directed this film.
Plot: Dhanush, a dumb person, gets his talent to reach Bollywood with the help of Akshara. He receives voice from Amitabh Bachchan, a yesteryear star. The film, in which they worked together was a hit. They develop a friction between them, due to their overconfidence of their talents. Their movies got flopped when they worked separately. During their travel to the ceremony of Akshara's film, they meet with an accident, in which Dhanush dies, and Amitabh loses his voice. The movie ends with Amitabh practicing Dhanush's lines near his grave.
Analysis: Though Balki gives all his best to produce a good film, something went amiss. The plot seemed to be weak. The character sketch provided was a genuine one. The first half kicks off well, but the second half drags. Apart from Amitabh's performance, P.C. Sreeram's performance was a saving grace for the film. Ilayaraja took care of the music part while Swanand Kirkire added lyrics to it. His lyrics was apt to the situation of the song.
Star Performance: As usual, Amitabh Bachchan leads the movie. With his heavy baritone, he gave yet another magnificent performance. Dhanush tried his level best in gaining some attention of the audience. Shamitabh is Akshara's debut film, and it is clear that she in the process of upgrading herself. At times, she seemed to be expressionless. In spite of the presence of cameos by many notable people, Rekha's cameo tops it. What's There: Heavy and strong monologs used by Amitabh acts as a pillar to the movie. The chemistry between the lead trio is brilliant and gives us a comfortable feel.
What's Not There: This is not a complete commercial movie. So it might not satisfy a few people.
Verdict: An experiment and a visual treat from Balki, especially for Bachchan's fans.
