Gauri Shinde is an Indian director and ad-maker who came to limelight after the success of her debut feature film English Vinglish which was released in the year 2012. In the same year, she was nominated in list of ‘Bollywood’s 5 Best Directors of 2012’ by Rediff. Her schooling was completed in Pune and then she came to Mumbai for her internship with Sidharth Kak. She completed her graduation from Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication, Pune. She has worked with Bates Clarion and IBW as an ad-film maker. She has also worked with Lowe Lintas. After that, she went to United States to further her studies.
In 2001, she made a short film titled Oh Man! This short film was selected to be premiered in the Berlin Film Festival. Her full length feature film English Vinglish was premiered in the Toronto Film Festival. During an interview, she commented that her movie English Vinglish was based on her own relationship and experienced with her mother. Her debut film got many accolades and appreciations from critics and viewers. Gauri Shinde won Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director for English Vinglish and she also got Laadli National Media Awards for Gender Sensitivity. Along with that, she also won Zee Cine Awards, Max Stardust Award, Star Guild Award, and Toifa Awards 2013 as best debut director of a feature film.
