Analysis
DMPS was so disappointing on so many levels. I thought, it was a romantic comedy, but the film did not allow the audience to be enticed, the script is terrible and the direction as well. A romantic comedy wants more than sultry gazes for one to begin wishing that the couple in the movie would get together. The second half is significantly superior to the first and hints at that moment what could be a good film with the help of a good script and direction.
DMPS is a romantic comedy; like, most of the films within this genre, it has a rather haphazard storyline that begins to evolve only in the second part of the movie. Indeed, the first half of the series is a mere conglomeration of scenes, with relatively little cohesiveness that it is pretty impossible to single out any sort of plot from it — however stunning the visuals may be. Some of this is intentional – it is also strategic for the film – but the whole episode is stretched to the unbearable limit, with the audience anxiously expecting the result.
It is virtually impossible to criticize DMPS about cinematography – it is just incredible. Right from the great shots of Lahore to the masterly shots of the actors and set, the film is a feast for the eyes. This is because the outstanding shooting style may well have turned into a weakness in the case of the movie in question. The film captures a tremendous number of adventurous stills; the director of the film may well have had difficulty deciding where to draw the line and let the film's editor trim the footage.
Only in the second half of the film, does the flow become better and such a loose plot that was developed around the weak central idea starts to gather some momentum. There are funny appearances of Humayun Saeed Humayun Saeed has been known famously across Pakis >> Read More... , HSY, and Meera, and some sanity in the storyline. One can still notice that the story is not very coherent and often shifts from one focus to another. Again, funny scenes that involve Sikki’s friend Pappu and his Chacha appear to have been inserted haphazardly as they apparently lack a good transition. Entirely several scenes are comedies, and they are somewhat contrived and do not fit into the movie very seamlessly.
On the flip side, veteran comedian Irfan Khoosat Irfan Khoosat is a famous Pakistani film & televis >> Read More... as Chacha tries his level best, but a poor script does not help him. Humaima Malick looks great on screen and portrays the fluctuating character of Annie perfectly. In her character portrayal, complexity is only seen occasionally in Annie but the fast shifting of moods and efficient manipulating of Sikki are superb. The protagonist, Sikander Rizvi, plays the role of a spoilt brat convincingly in his first movie, but one sees glimpses of the cameos that he can do well. He is sometimes clumsy and there are typical phrases that he uses too often, but sometimes it can be unnoticeable that he enters the realm of realistic behaviour. If given more experience, Sikander would have proved that he has the potential to become a good actor.
To sum up, DMPS is dramatically ill-conceived in terms of emerging as the winner in the style war. I can notice the sensibility that director Asad ul Haq was trying to achieve and yet the dream-like style of direction was not proper for the narrative. So, if Dekh Magar Pyar Se had been a love story with a haunting element, the sets used could have been ideal. As a romance and crime comedy, it looks unappealing and as for the tempo – it is too slow with too little on plot, and character front. It is worth watching just for the breathtaking visuals and costumes, but it is better to sit out during the intermission no matter how bored you are during the first part.

Verdict
The movie didn’t perform as much as it was thought to be. However, the audience can give it a try once, as the second half is much better than the first half. However, given a rating of 2.5, the film is merely a one-time watch.
