Rohini Hattangadi

Rohini Hattangadi is an Indian actress who can be called as a veteran in the true sense of the term. She is a very senior actress, who debuted with the movie called ‘Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan’ in 1978. She has an experience of around 35 years and she has been widely appreciated and critically perceived very well by the audiences and critics respectively. Some of her noted works are popular movies such as ‘Arth’ (1982), ‘Saaransh’ (1984) & ‘Gandhi’ (1982). She won a lot of recognition for her role of Kastoorba Gandhi in Sir Richard Attenborough’s ‘Gandhi’ (1982), which was a critical success and it won an Academy Award for the best film category. Rohini won the BAFTA Award for her role in this movie.

She has a number of credentials in the field of art cinema, which won her several National and International awards. She also remained associated with the mainstream Hindi cinema through some supporting or character roles in the movies such as ‘Shahenshah’ (1988), ‘Hero Hiralal’ (1988), ‘Agneepath’ (1990), ‘Raat’ (1992), ‘Damini (1993), ‘Ghatak’ (1996), ‘Pukar’ (2000) & ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.’ (2003) & its sequel ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’. Apart from these very famous movie endeavours, she also worked in regional language media, mostly in Marathi (movies, television & theatre) and a few south movies.

She also got associated with television through her stints with serials such as ‘Maayke Se Bandhi Dor’ (2011) & ‘Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann’ (2006). She is a well known theater personality and she is still active in this genre, through some power packed performances in the plays, which were staged in different corners of the country, from time to time. During her 35 years of association with the world of entertainment in India and abroad, she has worked with almost all noted directors and actors of this period.

She is among those few actresses who have witnessed the growth of cinema and television, from a preliminary stage to the latest advance one. She is a trained actor, who does not need any introduction for her acting skills due to a long range of her acting accomplishments. She is based in Mumbai.
