Plot
A couple of Indian Soldiers are caught during the Indo-Pak war. One of the soldiers father is also held, and the son decides to go and rescue them.
Star performance
The film has a fantastic star cast, and every actor has a proven talent. Amitabh bachchan again gives a tremendous performance, Sanjay Dutt despite his underwritten character gives his all and delivers a splendid performance. Akshaye Khanna also in his form gives a noteworthy performance. Amrita Rao is mainly used for the romantic aspect of the film. She doesn't have much to do. Kay Kay Menon is menacing as they come, he doesn't have to utter a word to make you scared, and that’s how good he is.
Analysis
The film mainly references the 1971 Indo-Pak war, if you’re looking for accuracy you shouldn’t because the story is fictional. The film starts promising with the stereotypes of army officers irrespective of what country they are from. The film’s biggest downfall is its pacing. The film is prolonged, and even though the actors have grabbed your attention, you cannot ignore the lazy pacing of the film. The film has balance and nuance in its POVs the film doesn't bash Pakistan which is new obviously. The acting performances are the backbone because despite some underwritten characters the actors have put forth fantastic performances, the action is also top-notch, and some sequences would be uncomfortable to watch because of the violence. A sense of lethargy will creep in because of the slow-pacing of the film but the performances will try their best to keep the audience engaged. The film is inspired by the classic Hollywood film The Great Escape (1963). Deewaar is a good action thriller, with fantastic performances and a gory action which the action fans would love.
