Roop Kumar Rathod is a trained classical playback singer who can conquer even innumerable hearts even with non-film music too. He was a born singer with an intuitive sense of beauty, charm and grace. His soft voice and profoundly artistic subtle method of singing conquered countless music lover souls. His one song from Border (Sandese Aate Hai) became the evergreen song of our soldier who work on borders to save the motherland.

His soft silken voice suited even songs in Tamil, Kannada and Bengali movies too. He also has sung songs in Bhojpuri, Oriya, Assamese and Gujarati languages too. He had sung a song from Veer Zara’ Tere Liye’ which had a melodious tune of Madan Mohan and it was a duet with Lata Mangeshkar. Roop Kumar Rathod’s typical genre was ghazal which he has sung with Anup Jalota.

But he was an astoundingly brilliant film singer who sung innumerable fantastic film songs with Manhar Udhas. Roop Kumar Rathod used to be the first choice of the of veteran music directors like Laxmikant Pyarelal and even Kalayanji Anandji, it is often said that this singer was the name of a singer, who has the name of a very valuable acquired taste from his father, Pandit Chaturbhuj Rathod, the classical luminary – an exponent of the rare and arguably the oldest style of singing i.e. Dhrupad.

Roop Kumar Rathod is married to singer, Sunali Rathod, who joins him in stage performances and have composed some musical albums in his career. Every song sung by him are also considered critically flawless and outstanding. This versatile singer was responsible for singing soft and soft and sombre semi-classical and non-classical ghazals. Rituraj Mohanty, whose native name is Ritu Ranjan Mohanty, is a Hindi singer and actor. He became widely known for his participation in the music reality show India's Raw Star, of which he was the first ever winner. Rituraj was born at Belapada, Nimapada, in the Puri district of Odisha. His parents are Sri Chakradhar Mohanty and Parvati Mohanty, and he was born as their eldest son. His father, Sri Chakradhar Mohanty is a professional musician and also a small-time singer. Sri Sumanta Mohanty, who was a reputed music director in Oriya classical music industry, is his cousin brother. Rituraj kept trying to get a break in the music industry and finally got it when he won the show India's Raw Star. He went on to sing the song Sahib in the Bollywood movie Bhoothnath Returns. Before he participated on the India's Raw Star, he had sung the song Aam Ke Aam Honge in the second season of the reality show Satyamev Jayate. Rituraj Mohanty became more of a popular icon after he began acting in serials and TV shows, which include Seeta Aur Geeta, Kittie Party, and Banegi Apni Baat. The number of fans that he earned while participating on India's Raw Star only seemed to increase once he took up an acting profession through TV shows. Rituraj Mohanty's voice and singing talent caught the attention of many music fans. His songs usually belong to the Sufi genre, which also helped in his success. He is said to have told that Sufi is his first love and that his focus is on playback singing. Rituraj was nominated for the STAR Parivaar Award for Favourite Naya Sadasya (Male) but lost it to Rohan Mehra for his role in the TV show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Rituraj Mohanty has named Lata Mangeshkar, A.R. Rahman, Ram Sampath, Himesh Reshammiya, Javed Akhtar, Roop Kumar Rathore, Vishal Sekhar and Salim Sulaiman as the artists who influenced him. In July 2015, a case was filed against Rituraj Mohanty and Sona Mahapatra for their re-rendition of the Sambalpuri cult song Rangabati.


Runa Laila

Runa Laila is one of the most popular singers in the subcontinent, and perhaps the only singer who sang in many foreign languages too, She has a huge fan base across the subcontinent for her unique voice. Her mastery over various genres of music in different languages had given her international recognitions. She won many international awards, and she has given playback in Bangladeshi, Indiana and Pakistani movies.  She was born in Sylhet (Pakistan)  on November 17, 1952  and started her music career in Pakistan. But when Bangladesh was separated from Pakistan, she settled in Bangladesh and presented some evergreen songs. She has received Saigal Award from India and Nigar Awards from Pakistan. She has presented more than 15,000 songs in her career spanning for 25 years. Runa Laila, who was a regular singer of the film industry, has become very selective now.  She finds today’s songs are very substandard and too commercial. This Bangladeshi singer tried her luck in Bollywood and got her first break in Kalyanji-Anandji’s film, Ek Se Badhkar Ek.  She had sung the title song in this film and became an instant popular singer with this song.  Later on, she gained much popularity with songs such as ‘O Mera Babu Chail Cahbila” and ‘Damadum Mast Kalandar’. She is a fan of many Indian playback singers such as Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Yesu Das, Asha Bhonsle, Mukesh, etc. She was noticed first by music composer Jaidev who gave her break in film ‘Gharonda’.  This film Gharonda provided some wonderful music by Jaidev. Female playback singing was done by Runa Laila, and her voice was a refreshing change from the usual voices that people got used to then. In this film ,she sang a duet with and even solo songs. Later Runa Laila. In 1974, she recorded a song named ‘Sadher Lau ‘ which was popular in Kolkata and even in Bangladesh. In 2009, she released her Punjabi wedding songs album and became more popular.  In 2012, she appeared as a judge for a musical show’ Sur Kshetra’ where she shared judge chair with another legendary singer Asha Bhosle. In 2015, she completed 5-decades of her musical journey. This playback singer started singing at a young age of 12, she got her first break in Pakistani film ‘Jugnu’ and become a prominent voice in Pakistan. She also appeared in TV shows in Pakistan and was doing playback singing in the movies as well.
