After the great success of the film, ‘ Shahid’, Hansal Mehta teamed again with talented star Rajkumar Rao in the movie ‘ Citylights’.

Deepak Singh, an ex-army man from Rajasthan, migrates to Mumbai with his wife and a little daughter for a better life. However, his arrival in Mumbai is not as easy as it seems. They are cheated by some people who promise to help them. They haven’t a single penny to survive. Then, Deepak finds a job in a security agency while his wife finds a bar seeking job as a dancer. The manager checks her outlooks from top to bottom and back to front. Deepak promises her wife that their life will be normal soon and that she shouldn’t work at the bar, but happiness is far away from their life.

The story is very painful, emotional and has lots of sufferings. The theme gives a reality check about the city life and how the city people exploit the poor. Mumbai is known as a dream city, but it could be shattered dreams too. Rajkumar as Deepak, again, delivers a great performance, which is remarkable. The song, ‘Muskurane ki wajah tum ho’, was a big hit and a heart touching song.

What’s in the movie?

A bunch of talented team members with a remarkable performance of Rajkumar Rao and Patralekha bind the audience with the emotions on their seats. Songs are over-zealous, which make you cry.

This movie is definitely worth a watch, as it depicts the daily struggles of the underprivileged.
