Plot

The story is about Roshan, a chef who loses job. With all this trouble in his hands, he decides to spend his time with his son, who lives with ex-wife of Roshan.

Being there, his ex-wife suggests Roshan a business idea, which he then begins to work on.

Star Performance

The film stars Saif Ali Khan, who portrays the character of Roshan on point. Be it the emotions of a father longing to spend time with his son or a man who just lost his job but can’t forget about his love for cooking; Saif does it all.

Analysis

The film showcases the themes of inspiration and passion, where Roshan shares a deep love and passion for food making, and that passion is so intense that he even chooses his passion over his family, which is why it is seen in the movie how he stays away from his family while his son lives with his ex-wife.

But under certain unfortunate circumstances, Roshan loses his job. Disappointed by this event, Roshan only finds comfort in one thing, and that is why he decides to visit his son.

After a long time, Roshan visits his son Armaan in Cochin, and they both have a good time together as father and son. But when it is finally time for Roshan to leave and go back, a realization strikes him as his connection with his son has become too precious for him, and he doesn’t want just to leave as he realizes how his passion and time spent at work have led him deprived of his time with his son.

That is when his ex-wife offers him a business offer, and in the end, Roshan decides to stay with him and open a food truck, which helps in both his purposes in life—cooking food and being with his son.

Verdict

The film “Chef” follows a tone of mellow and softness throughout; while it might make you a little restless that is what makes the film work to a certain extent.

The scenes capture a beautiful image of Kochi, which is not generally seen in North Indian movies. Saif Ali Khan depicts the role of a realistic character with his dad’s humor.

Overall, Chef is a mediocre remake of the original movie and you can watch it if you are looking for light humour and an inspirational, monotonous film.
