Plot

Shruti Kakkar, an aspiring wedding planner, is accosted by Bittoo Sharma, a certified backbencher from her college. He wants to join her venture to stay away from his father’s business. Shruti agrees but on one condition: never to get romantically involved. The two create ‘ Shaadi Mubarak Story Soon >> Read More... ,’ a unique wedding planning agency, that has become a massive success. However, when Bittoo realizes his feelings for Shruti, he feels threatened and starts to distance himself from her. Will the two realize that they are ‘made for each other’?

Star Performances

For a debut director, Maneesh Sharma has hit a home run with this venture. With a seasoned writer Habib Faisal for company, he has made a relatable, funny, yet emotional dramedy.

In his debut role, Ranveer Singh is like a breath of fresh air as the carefree, yet street-smart Bittoo. Anushka Sharma as the smart, but vulnerable Shruti is equally charming.

Analysis

Big fat Indian weddings are one of the favorite topics for Indian cinema per se. However, Maneesh Sharma decided to give it a unique twist, keeping the vibrant Delhi at the center stage in ‘Band Baaja Baaraat.’

Looking at the film, nobody can say that this is the work of a debut director. Maneesh Sharma has done a fabulous job, of making a film that is rooted, yet grand and vibrant. The notion of ‘Dilwaalon ki Dilli’ is stamped throughout this film, with glimpses of the capital city generously inserted in many sequences.

The film is a perfect musical, with Salim Sulaiman creating a fantastic album that will be remembered for ages. Apart from the iconic ‘Ainvayi Ainvayi,’ as well as ‘Dam Dam Mast Hai,’ we also have unconventional tracks like ‘Tarkeebein’ and ‘ Aadha Ishq Aadha Ishq is a romantic drama web series about an >> Read More... .’ None of the tracks seem out of place, and with Salim Merchant Salim Merchant is a mesmerizing Music director, pl >> Read More... himself leading the band of singers, you know the soundtrack is anything but bland.

As the lead actor, debutante Ranveer Singh has done a fantabulous job. He gives a convincing portrayal of the street-smart Bittoo, a character that you will find not just in Delhi, but in most of the small towns throughout the length and breadth of our nation. Anushka Sharma, already famous for ‘Rab ne Bana di Jodi,’ has proved that she is a force to reckon with in terms of acting. The supporting actors give solid support, with Neeraj Sood leading the tribe in style
