Anna is the biopic of the revered social activist Anna Hazare. Let’s see whether this attempt motivates us.

The movie takes us through the participation of Anna in the India Against Corruption Act. This movement was instrumental in the forming of the Jan Lokpal Bill. The movie also follows the life of Kisan Baburao Hazare (later titled Anna) from the year of 1946, and how he was honored with the title ‘Anna’ which means elder brother in Marathi. This is mainly because he changed his drought-affected village into a fertile place to live.

Star Performances

Shashank’s gestures and expressions of Anna is par excellence. Being the director himself he got the nuances of his character well. The rest of the cast include those from the Marathi and Hindi industry. Govind Namdeo, Kishore Kadam, Daya Shankar Pandey, Sharat Saxena etc. have done what is required of them.

Shashank Udapurkar has helmed direction for this film and this is his maiden venture as director. And he has also taken up the title role. Shashank took over a year to get details about the social activist and get his permission to make the film. And the film manages to bring before our eyes the life of Anna.

What’s there?

  • The movie is very inspiring.
  • The movie takes you down memory lane of some yesteryear films.
  • Anil Watt’s art direction deserves special mention.
  • Cinematography is par excellence and so is the costume designing.

What’s not there?

  • There is not the required technical competency in the movie.
  • BGM is jarring.

The movie manages to execute what it has intended.
